I was responsible for the creation, publishing, promotion, and management of all content on About.com's "Northwest US Travel" topic site for 16 years (About.com's Travel Channel has since been rebranded as TripSavvy.com). Taking a "friendly neighbor" approach when developing content for consumers, I was - and still am - an enthusiastic advocate for travel and recreation in the Northwestern states, including Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming. In addition to combining data and expertise to select attractive and relevant article topics and to create user-focused actionable content, my responsibilities included:
- content hub and landing page strategy and development
- search engine optimization / findability
- information architecture within topic
- editorial calendar maintenance
- social media promotion of site content
- weekly email newsletter
- content cross promotion within topic site, travel channel, and entire About.com network
All of this work was done using advanced content management and web analytics tools. (2000 - 2016)
Compensated based upon page views, working as an About.com "expert" was an awesome practical learning experience. From social media to smart phones to Google policies, I learned how to adapt to a constant stream of change.
